Folk Club
Herga suspends operations

"So sing together one and all
and raise a glass of wine.
Here's hoping we will meet again
along the road of time..."

With a heavy heart we have to announce to you that at the Herga AGM on 6th March 2017, after much discussion, the following resolutions were passed unanimously:

a) That the Club was clearly not sustainable in its present format and that therefore its activities be suspended with effect from the end of June 2017;

b) That the financial resources of the Club be held in the Bank for a period up until the end of June 2018 to provide for the possibility of a proposition being made to be made to re-open the Club which the Club Committee considered to be viable;

c) That after the end of June 2018, if no such proposition had been made and agreed by the Club Committee (as currently constituted, or with such substitutions as circumstances might require), the Club Committee be empowered to agree the disposition of the remaining Club resources.

So, after more than 54 glorious years of a well-earned international reputation, a collective membership in the thousands, more than 500 guest performers and more than a million cumulative decibels,
Herga will suspend operations at the end of June.

It goes without saying that
Herga deserves to "go out" in style, and definitely not with a whimper.  The precise manner (and date) in which this will be done will be communicated to you in due course, but do feel free to make suggestions.

And anyway, we are not done yet!  We still have Iona Fyfe (10 April), Dan McKinnon (5 June) and Kitty Vernon & Derek Burgess (19 June) to look forward to, as well as some 8-9 Open Stage evenings, so come along and give power to our choruses!

Keep singing!
